Headline: Horror in Bengaluru College: BTech Senior Assaulted in Campus Washroom by Junior Student

A shocking case of sexual assault has surfaced from a private engineering college in Bengaluru, exposing yet another dark side of campus safety in India. According to reports, a BTech senior student was allegedly raped by her junior inside the men’s washroom of the college during lunch hours. The incident, which occurred on October 10, has sparked outrage among students, parents, and women’s rights activists demanding stricter campus surveillance and immediate justice.

As per the FIR filed at the local police station, the accused, identified as Jeevan Gowda, had known the victim for around three months. On the day of the incident, he reportedly made several phone calls, asking her to meet near the architecture block of the campus. When the victim agreed to meet, the accused allegedly forced a kiss on her, dragged her into the men’s washroom, and locked the door. The victim stated that he sexually assaulted her between 1:30 pm and 1:50 pm, after which she managed to escape.

The trauma did not end there. Later that day, the accused reportedly called the victim and insensitively asked whether she “needed a pill,” a remark that has further enraged social media users and student groups. The survivor, in shock, confided in her friends and parents, who encouraged her to approach the police. The formal complaint was lodged on October 15, five days after the incident.

Police investigations revealed a lack of CCTV cameras near the washroom area, a major lapse in security infrastructure within the college. Forensic experts have been called in to collect digital and biological evidence, while the accused has been taken into judicial custody. Authorities have also initiated an internal inquiry to review campus safety measures and the college’s response to the case.

Women’s rights organizations have condemned the incident, emphasizing that campuses must be spaces of learning and safety, not fear and trauma. The case has reignited debate over the necessity of mandatory CCTV coverage, stricter background checks, and immediate reporting mechanisms within educational institutions.

The Bengaluru Police have assured that the case will be investigated thoroughly, and justice will be delivered swiftly. Meanwhile, the survivor continues to receive medical and psychological support. This harrowing episode serves as a grim reminder that despite progress in education and awareness, gender-based violence remains an alarming concern that India must confront with greater urgency and accountability.
